Greg Johnson, Director

Greg is a native of Elbert County and graduated from Elbert County High School in 1983. Greg attended Emmanuel College from 1983-1985 and is a 1987 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies. While at UGA, Greg worked in the Recreational Sports Program from 1985-1987.  Greg began his career in recreation at an early age as a teenager with the Elberton Recreation Department in 1979 as a scorekeeper and park services worker.  He joined the Elberton Recreation Department full-time in 1987 as Program Coordinator.  Greg was promoted to Assistant Director in 1991 and was named Director of the Elberton Recreation Department in 1995 where he served as Director for 2 1/2 years.  From 1997 to 2005, Greg was the Operations Manager for Elberton Utilities Natural Gas Division.  In March 2005, Greg joined Elbert County Parks and Recreation as Athletic Director and was named Director of Parks and Recreation in December 2005. Greg is a member of the Georgia Recreation and Park Association.  Greg and his wife Karen reside in Elbert County along with their daughter Conner.  Greg is an active member of Rock Branch Baptist Church where he works with the Kitchen Ministry. Greg is also a monthly Guest Columnist for The Elberton Star newspaper.  In his spare time he likes to work in the yard, spend time with his family, cooking and cheering on the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs!
